All of our garments are certified UPF50+ by ARPANSA, the Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency. They are the sole governing body and authority on radiation protection and nuclear safety in Australia. At SParms, all of our fabrics are independently tested in each variant and colour and certified at the maximum attainable rating at UPF50+.

The testing process is comprehensive. We send off a sample of each garment in each variant and colour to be independently tested at ARPANSA’s facilities. They rigorously analyse the fabric for the following qualities:

  • Material Composition
  • Tightness of the weave or knit
  • Colour
  • Stretch
  • Moisture
  • Condition
  • Finishing

The testing is done in accordance with Australian Standard AS/NZS4399 ‘Sun protective clothing - Evaluation and classification’ which was developed by Standards Australia. This standard outlines both the method for testing as well as labelling requirements for clothing that claim to offer sun protection. Only when the fabrics are tested comprehensively, do they then receive a rating between UPF15 up to UPF50 and UPF50+.

SParms is proud to have an accredited UPF50+ rating on all of our products. Each and every single line of product we have released carry a certification backed by ARPANSA as well as labelling rights with the official UPF50+ logo that you will find on the packaging of our products.
